WESTERN CAPE – An integrated law enforcement operation was conducted on Thursday morning, 17 September 2026, to fight gang violence in a known gang hotspot area in Woodlands, Mitchell’s Plain. The coordinated initiative focuses on the recovery of illegal firearms, narcotics, and wanted suspects, alongside strict compliance checks on parolees.
The multi-agency deployment comprised members of the South African Police Service (SAPS), the South African National Defence Force (SANDF), City of Cape Town Law Enforcement, Metro Police, and Traffic services.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Vincent Mukhathi, SAPS Spokesperson for integrated operations in the Western Cape, the mission is strategically designed to dismantle local criminal networks and restore public safety. The operation’s core objectives include the confiscation of illicit drugs and unregistered firearms, the apprehension of individuals with outstanding warrants, and the verification of parole conditions to ensure long-term community security.
This targeted approach highlights a sustained commitment by joint law enforcement entities to address organized crime and maintain order in historically affected neighborhoods.
