PIETERMARITZBURG, KwaZulu-Natal — A murder investigation has been launched after a woman’s body was found near an illegal dumping site in Copesville, Pietermaritzburg. The grim discovery has sparked widespread fear among local residents, intensifying existing concerns about the safety of women and children in the area.
The unidentified victim, believed to be in her 30s, was discovered on a Tuesday afternoon by a waste picker who was searching for recyclable plastics along Copesville Drive. The individual found the body, which was in an advanced state of decomposition, wrapped in a striped green and brown blanket. The finder immediately alerted community members, who subsequently contacted law enforcement.
Authorities at the Mountain Rise Police Station have opened a formal murder case. Police confirmed that the woman was found with her hands bound behind her back and had sustained multiple burn wounds across her body. While the exact circumstances and motive surrounding her death remain unclear, investigators are actively working to identify the victim.
