Authorities have identified three persons of interest, made a key arrest linked to violence against an Uber driver, and launched a multi-departmental probe into a viral social media threat, though officials caution it is too early to confirm the involvement of a serial killer.
During the media briefing, the Acting Minister of Police emphasized that while investigations remain the top priority, law enforcement cannot divulge all details at this stage. Releasing sensitive information prematurely could compromise the ongoing probe. However, the Acting Minister did highlight tangible progress, including the positive identification of additional slain female victims and the establishment of protocols to connect with their grieving families.
Investigators are actively pursuing three persons of interest. Authorities stressed that these individuals are not presumed guilty, but there is tangible, credible information linking them to one of the female murders. In a separate but related development, the Acting Minister confirmed that police worked around the clock to apprehend a perpetrator allegedly linked to the rape of a 17-year-old Uber driver.
Addressing widespread public speculation, the Acting Minister of Police explicitly stated that it is too early to classify the crimes as the work of a serial killer. The evidence currently available to investigators has not confirmed this beyond a reasonable doubt, and the probe remains in a highly sensitive phase as authorities continue to pull together resources and evidence across multiple government departments.
The briefing also featured strong remarks from the Minister in the Presidency for Women, Children and People Living with Disabilities, Minister Sindisiwe Chikunga, who called on men to actively speak up against any negativity or violence directed at women.
Minister Chikunga also addressed a controversial video currently circulating on social media, in which a man is seen threatening women inside a hotel restroom. The Minister issued a stern warning that anyone undermining, violating, or threatening women in the country will not be tolerated and will be dealt with decisively.
Authorities are actively searching for the individual in the video, urging him to present himself at the nearest police station. In response to the public outcry, the government has initiated a sweeping, multi-departmental investigation into the man. Home Affairs has been specifically tasked with investigating his legal and immigration status in the country. Furthermore, investigators will scrutinize his business affairs, following claims made in the video where the individual boasted about his wealth and financial influence.
The IMC concluded the briefing with a direct appeal to the public. Citizens are urged to come forward with any information that could assist the investigation. Simultaneously, authorities warned against circulating unverified facts or spreading fake news, emphasizing that such actions compromise sensitive police work and generate unnecessary panic within the public domain.
