WESTERN CAPE — A 45-year-old Makhaza suspect has been arrested and is currently in police custody for the illegal possession of ammunition and suspected stolen property following a targeted raid in Khayelitsha.
According to a spokesperson for Operation Lockdown III, the arrest was the result of actionable intelligence received regarding a suspect concealing stolen goods at a private residence in the Island Informal Settlement, Makhaza.
Acting on this information, police members arrived at the specified address at approximately 23:15 on Tuesday, 22 September, and conducted a thorough search of the premises. Following a lengthy pursuit, authorities successfully recovered a significant cache of illicit items.
The spokesperson confirmed that the seized property included 20 rounds of ammunition, a laser scope, 16 cellphones, six watches, and 30 necklaces.
The 45-year-old male suspect was subsequently arrested on charges of illegal possession of ammunition, as well as the possession of presumed stolen property.
The accused remains in police custody and is scheduled to make his first appearance at the Khayelitsha Magistrate’s Court once formal charges have been finalized.
