N’DJAMENA, Chad — Chad accuses Sudan of launching drone strikes against a convoy inside Chadian territory, according to recent statements from Chadian military authorities. The alleged aerial attack has intensified concerns that the protracted war in Sudan could dangerously escalate regional tensions and spill over into neighboring states.
The incident reportedly occurred on Thursday, targeting dozens of vehicles in the East End province. Officials emphasized that the strike location was situated more than 100 kilometers from the shared border with Sudan, indicating a significant penetration into Chadian airspace.
In direct response to the incursion, Chad has placed its military units on high alert. Chadian military authorities issued a stern warning to all warring parties in Sudan against crossing its frontier, explicitly stating that the nation reserves the full right to defend its sovereign territory from external threats.
This latest accusation adds a volatile new layer to an already strained bilateral relationship. Sudanese government officials in Khartoum have previously accused Chad of actively supporting the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF). The RSF has been engaged in a fierce, ongoing battle for control of Sudan against the Sudanese army since April 2023.
Furthermore, Khartoum maintains the claim that Chad allows RSF fighters and military supplies to transit through its territory. As the regional conflict continues to threaten neighboring stability, this latest incident marks a critical flashpoint, drawing international attention to the fragile security dynamics along the Sudan-Chad border.
