Pick n Pay asap! new Wallet feature lets customers use online refunds in-store

Pick n Pay asap! has launched a new digital Wallet that gives customers instant access to refunds from their online grocery orders, but also allows them to use those funds to pay at physical Pick n Pay tills.

When an item is adjusted, found to be out of stock, or refunded, the money is available instantly in the customer’s asap! Wallet for use towards their next asap! order or at a physical Pick n Pay store, rather than having to wait for it to reflect in their bank account.

The benefit is particularly practical when customers are in store and have accrued funds available to spend, letting them use that money on an immediate purchase rather than waiting to use it on their next online order.

Customers can generate a WiCode in the app and use it to pay with their available Wallet balance at a Pick n Pay till point. Customers can still request a refund to their bank account, but those wanting to activate the Wallet can opt in through their profile settings.

While digital wallets and instant refunds are established features in online retail, the ability to use an online grocery refund directly at a physical till gives customers greater flexibility across digital and in-store shopping.

“With the new Wallet, customers have the flexibility to use those funds when and where it suits them, whether shopping on asap! or in store. It’s another practical way we’re using technology to make the shopping experience more convenient and connected,” says Enrico Ferigolli, Retail Executive: Omnichannel at Pick n Pay.

The Wallet enhancement is one of many developments being introduced across Pick n Pay asap! since the app replatformed in 2025. This has significantly strengthened the platform’s foundations for growth by enabling the business to introduce new features and improve the customer experience more quickly.

Thanks to the new tech, Pick n Pay was able to launch SA’s first conversational AI-powered grocery shopping assistant – called Penny – which helps customers shop through multiple languages in voice or text, and photos. Together, these developments demonstrate how technology investment is translating into practical improvements across the shopping journey, from product discovery to payment and refunds.

The improvements come as Pick n Pay continues to grow its online grocery business, with online sales increasing by 35.4% in the 26 weeks ended 30 August 2026 (H1 FY27). Recent enhancements – including the addition of Clothing and Smart Shopper PRO – alongside a faster shopping and checkout experience, are strengthening the customer proposition, with the new Wallet function set to build on this momentum.

“It’s encouraging to see that customers are responding positively to the improvements we’re making. As we continue to enhance asap!, we’ll keep listening to our customers and investing in new features and practical improvements that make a meaningful difference to their shopping experience,” concludes Ferigolli.
