DEUTZ Dieselpower, in collaboration with digital solutions provider Britehouse, has developed a fully integrated, connected solution that brings diesel engine and exhaust aftertreatment performance data into a single, real-time operational view.
By bringing DEUTZ engine diagnostics and HJS filtration data into one interface, the plug-and-play platform offers key operational benefits by extending uptime, reliability, and fault traceability.
“The innovative solution addresses a long-standing challenge in demanding mining environments, where engine and filtration data often remain fragmented, locally isolated, or manually logged,” explains Brenton Alexander, Branch Network Director at Deutz Dieselpower.
“This lack of real-time visibility leaves on-site maintenance teams reliant on reactive repairs, driving up unplanned downtime, especially following catastrophic breakdowns, while also complicating emission-system tracking.”
To address these real-world challenges, Deutz Dieselpower wanted to develop a solution that instantly communicated diagnostic data when an Engine Control Unit (ECU) generated an error code so technicians could take immediate action.
“We wanted to develop a solution that would cut out manual diagnostic processes, as this dramatically reduces time-to-repair, and supports predictive and proactive maintenance to catch issues before they become catastrophic failures,” adds Alexander.
DEUTZ Dieselpower approached multiple providers in this field, but none could deliver a solution that addressed these requirements until they engaged with the Britehouse team.
Marco Capazario, Business Unit Head at Britehouse, explains that the digital solution provider’s deep experience in underground mining enabled the team to bring sector-specific expertise to this synergistic partnership.
“The crossover of skills and expertise from both entities made it possible to realise DEUTZ’s vision and deliver a solution that connects three core data layers for real-time end-to-end visibility into mining operations,” states Capazario.
The three core data layers include:
- DEUTZ Engine ECU: Captures real-time operating metrics, diagnostic error codes, and threshold events directly at the source.
- HJS Particulate Filtration System: Tracks exhaust-aftertreatment performance and filter status. HJS technology utilises patented Sintered Metal Filter (SMF®) modules that remove over 99% of soot and fine particulates. Featuring a cleanable, heavy-duty stainless steel design built for harsh underground environments, it provides cleanable durability without requiring standard ceramic filter replacements.
- ATAJO OnEdge: Developed by Britehouse, this modular IoT and edge computing platform handles secure edge acquisition, real-time analytics, automated alerts, and visual dashboards directly on-site.
“Built for connected or Wi-Fi-enabled environments, the solution is fully tested on DEUTZ dynos and is market-ready from day one. As a hosted platform, it can be installed by our teams within a single shift schedule to deliver immediate operational value,” continues Capazario.
Once activated, mine operators will gain access to real-time operational intelligence.
Live diagnostic trends surface abnormal conditions early, preventing minor engine exceptions from escalating into costly failures to enhance reliability.
These insights can also help prioritise maintenance needs, with automated error-code transmission eliminating manual diagnostic steps, which enables technicians to focus scarce maintenance capacity on targeted repairs.
“Instant alert-to-action workflows reduce repair turnaround times and preserve production continuity to increase uptime, and the automated reporting functions timestamp audit trails and historic trend reports, reducing manual administrative burden while establishing strong accountability for emissions-system stewardship,” adds Capazario.
