Midrand’s dining and entertainment scene is set for a new addition with the launch of Alur, an upmarket restaurant and lifestyle lounge at Carlswald Lifestyle Centre.
Founded by a seasoned restaurateur, Alur has been created for guests seeking a sophisticated dining and social experience closer to home. The venue brings together bold interiors, an Afro-Latin inspired menu and a signature cocktail offering centred around tequila, cognac and bubbly.
As Midrand continues to develop into one of Gauteng’s key residential, commercial and lifestyle hubs, Alur aims to provide a premium hospitality experience within the community.
“Midrand people deserve something that feels luxurious and comfortable at the same time. Alur is about creating a place where people can come together, enjoy good food and drinks, and feel that they are somewhere special without having to travel into Sandton,” says JM.
Designed as a day-to-night destination, Alur offers an open and elegant setting during the day, suited to lunches, meetings and social occasions. Its distinctive interiors bring together plum-coloured vaulted archways, white marble walls and floors, bold accents and soft lighting, while full moon windows draw the outdoors into the space.
As evening falls, the venue comes alive across its three bars and outdoor veranda, with an upstairs VIP area and dedicated Whisky Lounge offering exclusive spaces for guests seeking privacy and a more intimate experience. The lighting softens and the signature cocktail offering takes centre stage, creating a relaxed and sophisticated lounge atmosphere.
The same spirit of discovery carries through to the menu, which balances familiar South African flavours with Latin American influences. One of the standout dishes includes the mogodu taco and chipo, bringing the distinctly South African dish of tripe into an unexpected Latin inspired format.
“We wanted to create something distinctive that takes our patrons on a journey of discovery, moving between familiar and exotic flavours. This approach is reflected across the menu in dishes such as our chipotle chicken feet,” says Head Chef Naledi Toona.
The menu reflects Alur’s broader approach to creating an experience that encourages guests to explore familiar flavours in new ways, while maintaining a strong connection to South African culinary identity.
Alur is more than a place to eat and unwind It is a destination designed to engage the senses, from its striking interiors and distinctive flavours to its carefully crafted cocktails and considered spaces. With an atmosphere that invites guests to linger, connect and indulge, Alur offers a sophisticated escape in the heart of Midrand, bringing a new dimension to the city’s lifestyle offering.
