FICKSBURG — An 18-year-old man from Zone 8 in Meqheleng, near Ficksburg, was arrested on Thursday, 25 June 2026, for the possession of an unlicensed shotgun.
At approximately 18:30, the Ficksburg Crime Prevention team received a tip-off from community members regarding a young man in possession of an illegal firearm in the area. Acting on the intelligence, police proceeded to an identified residence where they located the suspect.
During a search of the premises, officers recovered a brown shotgun bearing a serial number. No ammunition was found at the scene. The suspect was immediately arrested after failing to produce a valid firearm license.
The confiscated firearm has been seized by police and will be circulated to determine its origin before being submitted for ballistic analysis.
