25-Year-Old Suspect Arrested for Attempted Murder in Mahwelereng, Waterberg District

LIMPOPO — A 25-year-old suspect has been arrested and is facing attempted murder charges following a serious domestic incident in the Mahwelereng policing area of the Waterberg District. The arrest stems from an alleged armed confrontation at a private residence in Ga-Molekana.

According to law enforcement reports, the incident unfolded on Sunday, 12 July 2026, at approximately 18:05. The suspect visited the home of the 31-year-old female victim. After she refused his request to spend the night, the suspect allegedly returned armed with a firearm and pointed the weapon at her.

The victim managed to secure herself inside her bedroom. Moments later, a gunshot was discharged. The suspect allegedly forced the bedroom door open and entered the room, where he reportedly pleaded with the victim not to report the incident to the police. He subsequently remained at the residence overnight.

On the morning of Monday, 13 July 2026, the suspect departed the premises. Once police were notified of the event, investigators swiftly traced and apprehended the individual.

A police spokesperson confirmed that the suspect is in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Mokerong Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 15 July 2026, to face formal charges of attempted murder. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities prepare the case for prosecution.
