A 41-year-old man was arrested on Monday afternoon, 03 November 2025, for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
The arrest occurred at approximately 14:00 in the Shabalala Trust area of Dundonald after members of the Highway Patrol Unit, who were conducting routine patrols, acted on intelligence regarding a man allegedly in possession of a firearm.
According to police reports, the officers immediately proceeded to the given address. Upon their arrival, the suspect allegedly brandished the firearm at the approaching members. The vigilant officers successfully managed to disarm and apprehend the man without further incident.
Law enforcement confiscated a firearm, one magazine, and nine live rounds of ammunition at the scene.
The suspect is scheduled to make his first appearance before the Chief Albert Luthuli Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 04 November 2025. The recovered firearm will be sent for forensic ballistic testing to establish if it was used in the commission of any other crimes.
