EDENVALE — A 45-year-old man was arrested on Sunday, 14 June 2026, on charges of kidnapping, unlawful discharge of a firearm, and defeating the ends of justice following an incident involving an e-hailing driver.
The incident occurred at approximately 07:30 after the e-hailing driver transported a female passenger to a residence in Edenvale. Upon arrival, the suspect confronted the driver, accusing him of being involved in a romantic relationship with the suspect’s girlfriend.
The suspect allegedly forced the e-hailing driver into his vehicle and prevented him from leaving. During the incident, the suspect discharged a firearm in the direction of the driver. The driver managed to escape unharmed and immediately drove to a nearby police station to report the matter.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) arrested the suspect shortly after the incident. Police investigations into the matter are currently ongoing.
The suspect is scheduled to appear before the Germiston Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 15 June 2026.
