In a continuation of intensified evening operations, the South African Police Service (SAPS) in the Amathole District has intercepted a silver grey Volkswagen Polo on the N2, seizing 69.325 kilograms of dagga and arresting three men.
The interception occurred at approximately 02:10 on Wednesday, 10 June 2026, near Dutywa. Officers, supported by a private security firm acting as a force multiplier, had been manning the N2 roadblock since Tuesday evening, 09 June 2026. During a routine search of the vehicle, police uncovered 15 bags of the illicit substance stashed inside.
The confiscated dagga carries an estimated street value of R346,625. Following the discovery, the three male occupants—aged 32 and 42—were taken into custody. They have been formally charged with violating the Drugs and Drug Trafficking Act 149 of 1992 and are slated to make their first appearance at the Dutywa Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 11 June 2026.
