EASTERN CAPE — ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa has expressed strong confidence in the ruling party’s upcoming electoral victory in the Eastern Cape, reaffirming the province’s status as a crucial stronghold ahead of the November 4 elections.
Despite facing various operational challenges, Ramaphosa emphasized that the love for the party remains robust in the region. He noted that the Eastern Cape consistently delivers high electoral returns, which significantly boosts the party’s national numbers. Addressing previous logistical hurdles, the ANC President confirmed that voter registration problems are now behind them, allowing the campaign to charge forward and mobilize citizens to vote in large numbers.
While the political machinery gears up for the polls, local communities in Dan have highlighted pressing socio-economic concerns, specifically stressing the need for accelerated basic services. Residents expressed frustration over high youth unemployment, noting that it is difficult to watch their children remain idle at home without jobs. Although the community expressed gratitude for the housing already provided to them, they maintained that significant additional development is still required.
Addressing internal party dynamics, the ANC leadership assured that the party remains united in the Eastern Cape. The provincial elective conference has been placed in abeyance to prioritize the upcoming elections. Ramaphosa clarified that the party does not contest elections for fun, fashion, or convenience, but rather to contest state power, advance the national democratic revolution, and tangibly change the lives of South Africans.
Internal structural issues will be addressed immediately following the elections. Leadership stressed that the provincial conference is inevitable and will be convened at the appropriate time. Furthermore, the national conference scheduled for next year cannot be postponed, and the national leadership will outline the roadmap for all due provincial conferences. It was also noted that certain internal matters remain pending in court.
Looking ahead to the final stretch of the campaign, the party is scheduled to host its Yangoba rally in Ko city on Sunday, November 1, as it continues to consolidate its support base in the region.
