KWAZULU-NATAL — Emergency crews are conducting an extensive coastal recovery operation following a tragic Black Rocks Zinkwazi drowning incident that claimed the life of an 18-year-old male over the weekend.
IPSS Search and Rescue were initially notified of the emergency at the Black Rocks area on Sunday afternoon at approximately 17:00. Zinkwazi lifeguards were immediately alerted to the situation, and a joint search for the teenager was swiftly launched. However, due to fading light, the initial recovery efforts were suspended on Sunday evening and resumed early Monday morning.
As the operation enters its third day, IPSS Search and Rescue, in collaboration with Zinkwazi lifeguards, have maintained a daily presence along the coast. Search teams have escalated their efforts by deploying drone technology to scan the shoreline and conducting aerial sweeps using a Badul Air Helicopter. Despite these comprehensive air and sea searches, officials report that there have been no sightings of the victim thus far.
In light of the ongoing search, representatives from IPSS Search and Rescue have issued an urgent public appeal. Fishermen, local residents, and beachgoers are being urged to remain vigilant and keep a close watch along the Zinkwazi coastline.
Authorities are asking anyone who spots the missing teenager to contact IPSS Search and Rescue immediately to assist in the recovery efforts. Further updates will be provided by rescue officials as the situation develops.
