KWAZULU-NATAL – Search and rescue officials have recovered an unidentified body from the Mkomazi River in the Umkomaas area following a coordinated response on Friday afternoon, 17 July 2026.
Members of the Port Shepstone Search and Rescue team, alongside K9 Search and Rescue units, were dispatched to the scene after receiving a call regarding a body spotted in the river. Upon arrival, the rescue teams swiftly conducted a recovery operation and successfully retrieved the deceased from the water.
According to search and rescue representatives, the identity of the deceased has not yet been established. Official investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident remain active and ongoing.
Authorities are appealing to the public for assistance. Anyone possessing information that could aid in identifying the deceased is strongly encouraged to contact their nearest police station immediately.
