NORTH WEST — What began as a desperate search for a missing youth has culminated in a horrific Brits murder case, after authorities uncovered a lifeless body concealed inside a pit toilet at the R61 Rashoop informal settlement. The major breakthrough occurred when the primary suspect agreed to lead detectives directly to the grim crime scene hidden behind his own residence.
The sequence of events unfolded after a concerned family filed a missing person report at the local police station on Friday, 7 August 2026. Investigators quickly zeroed in on 46-year-old Johannes Mokoena, identifying him as a person of interest who was reportedly the last individual seen in the company of the 19-year-old victim. Once taken into custody, Mokoena allegedly offered to direct the search team to the teenager’s whereabouts.
Following the suspect’s directions to the R61 Rashoop informal settlement, officers were led to a locked pit toilet situated directly behind Mokoena’s shack. Upon forcing the structure open, detectives were met with a disturbing scene: the deceased teenager was discovered with his neck, legs, and hands tightly bound. A search of the immediate area also yielded two golf clubs, which authorities have seized as suspected instruments used to carry out the fatal attack.
Following the recovery of the victim and the physical evidence, Mokoena was officially placed under arrest. He is currently facing a docket of severe allegations, including murder, kidnapping, and defeating or obstructing the ends of justice.
