WESBANK, WESTERN CAPE – A major Wesbank shooting investigation is underway after a deadly early-morning attack left two young adults dead and seven others wounded in the Western Cape. The South African Police Service (SAPS) is actively pursuing two murder charges and seven counts of attempted murder following the violent incident on Godetia Street.
Responding to an emergency call at approximately 4:40 am on Sunday, 12 July 2026, law enforcement officers discovered the fatal casualties at the scene: a 22-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman, both of whom had succumbed to severe gunshot wounds.
The gunfire also left six adults and one infant requiring urgent medical intervention. While the adult victims were initially treated at a local medical facility, the infant was promptly transferred to the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital for specialized care. Authorities have confirmed that all surviving victims are currently in stable condition.
Initial investigative findings reveal that a group had congregated outside a private residence when unidentified attackers unleashed a barrage of gunfire. Forensic teams recovering ballistics and other evidence at the scene suspect that multiple perpetrators orchestrated the coordinated assault.
Although the precise motive remains undetermined, detectives are actively exploring potential gang-related links as a primary avenue of inquiry. To curb the threat of retaliatory violence and ensure community safety, SAPS has visibly bolstered its policing footprint throughout the Wesbank neighborhood. No suspects have been apprehended or formally identified to date.
Law enforcement is urgently appealing to the public for assistance. Anyone with relevant knowledge or information that could advance the case is urged to contact Crime Stop at 08600 10111, or to submit tips confidentially via the official MySAPS mobile application.
