Durban Shooting Leaves Three Wounded Following Alleged Edward Street Robbery

DURBAN, KwaZulu-Natal — A Durban shooting has left three people wounded following an alleged robbery in the city’s central business district. Law enforcement and medical services rapidly converged on Edward Street around 6:30 p.m. after a business hold-up reportedly escalated into violence, resulting in gunshot injuries to a shop owner and two alleged suspects.

An Advanced Life Support (ALS) paramedic spokesperson confirmed that emergency dispatchers received multiple calls regarding a business robbery and shooting in the Durban central area. Multiple ALS units were dispatched to the scene, where responders found three individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. The spokesperson noted that the two alleged suspects sustained critical injuries, while the member of the public, understood to be the shop owner, was also injured. All three victims were stabilized on-site by advanced life support paramedics and transported to nearby medical facilities. Authorities have confirmed there were no fatalities at the scene.

South African Police Services (SAPS) officials have established a heavy presence in the area to secure the location and launch a thorough investigation. Law enforcement officers were observed entering the shop and subsequently questioning several individuals gathered outside. According to a SAPS spokesperson, these individuals are believed to be witnesses to the robbery and subsequent shooting, and their statements are being collected to piece together the exact sequence of events.

The incident has drawn a diverse crowd, with various nationalities present on the ground. While authorities have not yet officially confirmed the identities or nationalities of the injured suspects, unverified allegations suggest the individuals may not be South African citizens. Officials indicated that some individuals at the scene could face detention pending verification of their immigration status by the Department of Home Affairs, though these claims remain strictly allegations at this stage of the ongoing probe.

The investigation remains active as police continue to process the crime scene on Edward Street. Authorities are urging anyone with additional information or video footage of the alleged robbery and Durban shooting to come forward to assist with the inquiry.
