A swift response by the Klerksdorp Tactical Response Team (TRT) led to the arrest of five suspects on Tuesday afternoon, 26 May 2026, in connection with a robbery and the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition at Extension 2, Phelandaba Drive, Jouberton.
The arrests stem from an incident reported earlier that day in the Klerksdorp Central Business District (CBD). Police reports indicate that a 41-year-old Chinese national and his friend were waiting for a property agent to show them a building when they were approached and attacked by a group of approximately six men armed with knives.
During the confrontation, the victim drew his firearm, but one of the suspects allegedly grabbed it from him and pushed both victims to the ground. The suspects then searched the victims, stealing their cellular phones, cash, and the firearm before fleeing in a vehicle. Both victims sustained minor injuries.
Authorities circulated a description of the suspects and the vehicle. On-duty TRT members later spotted the vehicle with occupants in Extension 2, Jouberton. When police intercepted the vehicle, the occupants fled on foot. Following a pursuit, five suspects were apprehended. Officers recovered a 9mm pistol, ammunition, a cellular phone, and the vehicle believed to have been used in the crime.
The five suspects, aged between 24 and 36, are scheduled to appear before the Klerksdorp Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 28 May 2026, facing charges of robbery and illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
The investigation remains ongoing.
