MAGALIESBURG — The South African Police Service (SAPS) in Magaliesburg arrested four suspects and seized eight AK-47 rifles and seven empty magazines on the morning of June 16, 2026.
The operation took place during a police patrol along the R24 road, where officers observed a Namibian-registered Volvo truck parked on the side of the road with a Mazda sedan directly behind it. While monitoring the vehicles, officers witnessed two men transferring a mielie bag from the truck into the boot of the Mazda.
Police swiftly approached the occupants and searched the bag, discovering the eight AK-47 rifles and the seven empty magazines inside. All four suspects were arrested at the scene and charged with the possession of unlicensed firearms.
The seized firearms will undergo ballistic testing to determine if they were used in the commission of other crimes. The suspects will also undergo police profiling as the investigation continues.
