WESTERN CAPE — Serious Violent Crime detectives are actively investigating a deadly Nyanga mass shooting that left four men dead late Saturday night. The fatal ambush unfolded along Old Klipfontein Road, prompting a major law enforcement response to uncover the circumstances behind the targeted attack.
According to preliminary findings, the incident occurred at approximately 21:55 on 01 August 2026. The four adult male victims were traveling together in a Toyota Avanza when they were forced to pull over to address a flat tyre. As they attended to the vehicle, unidentified assailants approached and opened fire, striking all four individuals.
Emergency medical personnel responded to the scene but were only able to declare the victims deceased on site due to the severity of their gunshot wounds. The gunmen fled the area immediately following the attack and have not yet been apprehended by authorities.
A spokesperson for the Serious Violent Crime Unit confirmed that four formal counts of murder have been registered as the investigation intensifies. While detectives are still gathering forensic evidence and witness statements, early indications point to a suspected taxi-related motive. Authorities emphasized that this potential connection remains a central focus of the ongoing probe as investigators work to identify and track down the fleeing suspects.
The public is urged to come forward with any relevant information that could assist the Serious Violent Crime Unit in bringing the perpetrators to justice.
