WESTERN CAPE – A human trafficking suspect was arrested in Cape Town following the successful rescue of a 21-year-old victim, marking a significant development in a coordinated anti-trafficking operation.
The Hawks Economic Protected Resources team, assisted by City of Cape Town Law Enforcement and A21, a non-governmental counter-trafficking organization, apprehended a 55-year-old foreign national on 18 September 2026 on charges of trafficking in persons.
The arrest culminates an investigation that began on 27 August 2026, when members of the Hawks, alongside officials from the Department of Home Affairs, executed a search and seizure operation at an identified brothel in Rondebosch. During the operation, authorities discovered a 21-year-old foreign national female allegedly working as a sex worker at the premises. Subsequent investigations confirmed her status as a victim of human trafficking, and she was immediately referred for a comprehensive medical examination.
Following the formal issuance of an arrest warrant, a targeted search for the suspect ensued, ultimately leading to his apprehension in Goodwood.
The accused is scheduled to make his first appearance in the Wynberg Magistrates Court on Monday, 21 September 2026, to face formal charges related to the trafficking incident. Authorities continue to emphasize collaborative efforts with non-governmental organizations and municipal law enforcement to combat human trafficking networks in the region.
