KEMPTON PARK, Gauteng — Gauteng police have established a dedicated multidisciplinary task team to investigate the deaths of four women in Kempton Park over the past two months. The newly formed unit is working urgently to determine whether the recent fatalities are linked, following the discovery of a fourth body in the area this past Saturday night.
The latest victim, a 38-year-old woman, was reported missing on Wednesday after going for a routine jog. Her body was discovered on Saturday evening between 5:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. Authorities noted that the body was partially clothed and showed visible bruising, echoing disturbing similarities with the previous three cases found in the same Ekurhuleni suburb.
Gauteng Deputy Commissioner General Mbuso Khumalo is leading the specialized investigative team, which includes detectives from the Murder and Robbery Unit alongside specialists from the Investigative Psychology Unit. While authorities acknowledge that the similarities in the victims’ injuries and the locations where they were found are “sufficiently concerning,” General Khumalo’s team emphasized that it is still too early to conclusively determine if a single perpetrator or a serial killer is responsible for the deaths of four women in Kempton Park.
In response to the alarming pattern, law enforcement has issued an urgent public safety warning. Women and residents are strongly advised against exercising, jogging, or walking alone in the area. Police recommend that individuals run in groups or with a partner to ensure their personal safety while the intensified search for suspects continues. Heavy police presence, including multiple patrol vehicles, has been maintained in the neighborhood to deter further incidents and gather community information.
Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi has personally visited the crime scenes to assess the investigative progress. Premier Lesufi also reached out directly to the victim’s family to offer support during this deeply challenging period. He assured the public that law enforcement agencies have been fully resourced and are doing everything necessary to trace, track, and apprehend the culprits behind these hideous crimes.
As the multidisciplinary task team pieces together the evidence, families who have reported missing loved ones are scheduled to view and formally identify the fourth body on Monday. Police remain tight-lipped regarding specific arrests but confirmed that provincial and national resources are fully deployed to solve the mystery haunting the Kempton Park community.
