Limpopo Man in Custody After Confessing to Strangling of Grade 12 Girlfriend

A 24-year-old man is in police custody in Limpopo after approaching a police officer’s home to confess that he had murdered his girlfriend, a Grade 12 female learner.

The Sebayeng SAPS has opened a murder case in connection with the domestic violence-related incident, which occurred on Wednesday, 10 June 2026. According to police, the suspect arrived at the private residence of a SAPS member in Titibe Village, Ga-Dikgale, at approximately 20:40 and admitted to killing his partner.

Officers immediately responded to the confession. The suspect then guided police to his own residence in Ga-Makgoba village, where they found the victim lying motionless inside his bedroom. She was certified dead at the scene. Preliminary investigations reveal that the student, who attended a local secondary school, had been strangled. The exact motive for the killing remains unknown.

Limpopo Provincial Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe strongly condemned the murder, using the tragedy to reiterate the urgent need for communities to reject all forms of gender-based violence and domestic abuse.

“Violence can never be a solution to relationship challenges,” Hadebe stated. “We urge members of the community to seek lawful and peaceful means of resolving disputes and to make use of available support structures when relationships become strained.”

The suspect remains in detention and is expected to appear before the local Magistrate’s Court soon.
