LWANDLE, Western Cape — A devastating Lwandle mass shooting has left 10 people dead and 11 others injured, prompting a massive manhunt by Western Cape authorities. The early morning attack on a local shisanyama entertainment venue has sent shockwaves through the community, with the South African Police Service (SAPS) immediately launching a high-level investigation to track down the unidentified gunmen.
The bloodbath unfolded rapidly at approximately 01:46 when armed suspects stormed the popular establishment—known for hosting patrons and selling braaied meat—and opened fire indiscriminately into the crowd.
The tragic aftermath saw five victims pronounced dead at the scene. Another five individuals sustained critical injuries and succumbed to their wounds after being rushed to nearby medical facilities. Eleven additional survivors are currently receiving urgent medical care for various gunshot wounds.
Specialized Task Team Deployed
In response to the massacre, Western Cape Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Sizakhele Dyantyi has authorized the formation of a specialized multidisciplinary team. Spearheaded by seasoned detectives from the serious violent crime unit, the task force has been mandated to exhaust all avenues in identifying and apprehending those responsible.
Local Lwandle police have officially registered dockets for both murder and attempted murder. Despite intensive groundwork and intelligence gathering, authorities confirmed that no arrests have been made as of yet.
Police management has significantly bolstered visible law enforcement deployments in and around the Lwandle area to stabilize the neighborhood, reassure residents, and support the ongoing search for the perpetrators.
“The identities of the deceased persons will be released once their next of kin are informed,” the SAPS noted in an official briefing regarding the incident.
