Man Arrested After Robbery, Murder at Acornhoek Plaza

Police have arrested a suspect in connection with a fatal shooting and robbery that occurred at Acornhoek Plaza on Friday, 20 February 2026.

According to authorities, law enforcement officials received a tip-off from members of the Farm Watch community safety initiative regarding the apprehension of a suspect linked to a common robbery at a bank ATM in the plaza.

It is alleged that a female victim was robbed of her bank card, and an amount of R1,500 was subsequently withdrawn from her account.

The vehicle believed to have been used during the robbery was later found abandoned. A male suspect was taken into custody a few meters away from the vehicle.

During the response, police discovered the body of an unknown male at the scene. The victim had sustained a gunshot wound to the chest. A pistol with a visible serial number was found in the possession of the arrested suspect.

The suspect in custody allegedly stated that he did not know the deceased but claimed that they had travelled together from Burgersdorp in Tzaneen. Two additional suspects reportedly fled the scene and are currently being sought by police.

The arrested individual is facing charges of murder and armed robbery. Authorities have indicated that further charges may be added as the investigation continues.
