STERKSTROOM — On 12 June 2026, the Sterkstroom Regional Court sentenced 44-year-old Patric Zolani to 10 years of direct imprisonment for the attempted murder of his 34-year-old ex-girlfriend. In addition to the prison sentence, the court declared Zolani unfit to possess a firearm.
The conviction stems from an incident that occurred on 23 March 2025 near Phumla Mqeshi Location in Sterkstroom, where Zolani stabbed the victim. The incident was reported to the Sterkstroom South African Police Service (SAPS), leading to his subsequent arrest.
Following his arrest, Zolani made several bail applications. These applications were successfully opposed on 31 March 2025 by the Investigating Officer, Detective Sergeant Andile Mangwana. As a result of the denial, Zolani was remanded in custody for the entire duration of the trial, remaining detained until his sentencing on 12 June 2026.
