A 22-year-old man has been convicted and sentenced for assaulting his 23-year-old life partner with a spade in Vosburg, following a thorough investigation by the Carnarvon Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday, 31 October 2025. According to evidence presented in court, the victim was at a tavern in Vosburg when the accused arrived at approximately 01:14 and informed her that their child was awake. The victim accompanied him home and went directly to bed. Shortly after, the accused stood next to the bed and repeatedly struck her on the face and body with a spade. The victim’s screams for help alerted her aunt, who was also in the house and immediately intervened to assist her.
A case of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH) was registered at the Vosburg Police Station. The investigation was assigned to Warrant Officer Floris Jacobus Fritz of the Carnarvon FCS Unit, whose meticulous investigative work led to the successful prosecution of the accused.
On Wednesday, 24 June 2026, the Regional Court sitting in Carnarvon convicted the man. He was sentenced to six years’ imprisonment, wholly suspended for a period of five years.
Major General Nomana Mtukushe, District Commissioner of the Pixley ka Seme District, commended Warrant Officer Fritz for his diligent investigation, noting that his work ensured justice was served for the victim.
