Police in Modimolle have launched a manhunt following the fatal shooting of a female correctional services officer on the morning of Tuesday, 12 May 2026.
At approximately 06:30, the victim was walking from her rented room to her workplace at Modimolle Correctional Centre along Nelson Mandela Road when an unknown man approached her. An altercation took place, after which the victim was shot twice in the upper body.
The victim, who was temporarily residing in Modimolle town, was declared dead at the scene. Her identity has been withheld as part of the ongoing investigation.
The suspect fled on foot and has not yet been arrested. The motive for the shooting remains unknown at this stage.
Limpopo Provincial Commissioner Lt General Thembi Hadebe has ordered specialised units to intensify the search for the suspect.
