The investigation was launched after school authorities reported that learners had been found in possession of and smoking vape pipes containing cannabis. The incident reportedly caused a loss of focus during examinations and other strange behaviour among the students.

A meeting was convened on Monday, 10 November 2025, to operationalize the intelligence. Following this, the White River K9 unit formally registered a case.

Utilizing undercover officers, police were able to purchase cannabis from the shop, located at 21 William Street, to confirm the illegal activity. This was followed by a coordinated raid, which led to the arrest of two employees yesterday, Wednesday, 12 November 2025.

The subsequent search yielded a large quantity of illicit goods. Seized items included not only dagga and pot plants but also a range of cannabis-infused products designed to appeal to a younger demographic. These products consisted of sweets, lollipops, chocolates, juice, cola, and vape juice.

Notably, the shop had only been open for business for a few days, having commenced operations on 1 November 2025.

The successful operation was a joint effort between the White River K9 unit and detectives from the Provincial Organised Crime Investigation unit.

The two suspects are scheduled to make their first appearance at the White River Magistrate’s Court today, Thursday, 13 November 2025.
