GQEBERHA, Eastern Cape – A residential property in Motherwell, Gqeberha became the scene of a fatal shooting yesterday, leaving four teenage boys dead and another critically injured.
According to Police Spokesperson Brigadier Nobuntu Gantana, emergency teams responded to reports of gunfire at a house in the area, where they encountered a grim discovery. Four young men—two 17-year-olds and two 18-year-olds—were found with gunshot wounds to the head. Two victims were unresponsive in the lounge, while the other two were struggling to breathe. A fifth male was located unresponsive in the bathroom, also suffering from a head gunshot wound.
Metro Emergency Medical Services confirmed three fatalities upon arrival at the scene. Paramedics worked to revive a fourth victim, but he unfortunately passed away despite their efforts. The surviving victim was immediately transported to a hospital for urgent medical care.
Brigadier Gantana confirmed the ages of the deceased and noted that their identities will be made public once family notification procedures are finalized. “We are proceeding with compassion and diligence during this difficult process,” Gantana added.
A formal case docket has been registered at SAPS Motherwell, charging four counts of murder and one count of attempted murder. The probe is under the jurisdiction of the South African Police Service’s Serious and Violent Crime Investigation Unit.
Investigators have not yet determined a motive for the attack, and no suspects have been identified or apprehended at this stage. The inquiry remains active as authorities work to piece together the circumstances surrounding the incident.
