Police arrested two suspects, aged 38 and 43, in the early hours of 22 April 2026 at approximately 02:40 on charges of possession of live ammunition, stock theft, and illegal hunting.
Members of the South African Police Service were conducting routine patrols when they received an alert from a security company about suspects apprehended for alleged illegal hunting. On arrival at the scene, officers found and questioned the two suspects.
One suspect was found in possession of a licensed firearm containing 15 rounds of ammunition and a magazine. Police observed bloodstains on the suspects’ clothing and discovered two slaughtered carcasses at the scene — one of a wild animal and one of a cow.
Three cellphones were also found in the suspects’ possession. The suspects claimed the devices belong to a third suspect who fled before police arrived.
Various exhibits, including the licensed firearm, were seized for further investigation.
The two suspects are expected to appear before the Emanzana Periodical Court today, 23 April 2026. Investigations are ongoing.
