Murder-Suicide in Hoedspruit Claims Three Lives


A tragic shooting incident in the Hoedspruit policing area on Saturday has left three people dead, including the suspected gunman, in an apparent murder-suicide.

The events unfolded on October 18, 2025, at approximately 12:00 in the Mabins B village. According to police reports, officers were conducting routine patrols when they received a call about a shooting and immediately rushed to the scene.

Upon arrival, the brother of the victims directed them to two lifeless bodies. The victims were identified as a 44-year-old woman, the suspect’s wife, and her 36-year-old sister. Both had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.

Preliminary information indicates that the 45-year-old male suspect arrived at the victims’ residence, parked his vehicle outside the yard, and without warning, began firing multiple shots at them.

During the attack, a third woman, a 34-year-old sister-in-law of the suspect, managed to flee but was shot in the stomach. She survived the assault and was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.

Following the shooting, the suspect fled the scene. He was later located at his own residence, where he was found deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound from his own firearm.

The motive for the violent incident is currently unknown. Police have confirmed that their investigations into the circumstances are continuing.
