N4 Toll Road Tragedy: Eight Killed in Mpumalanga Minibus Taxi and Truck Collision

NGODWANA, MPUMALANGA — A devastating crash involving a minibus taxi and a freight truck on the N4 toll road has claimed eight lives in Mpumalanga, prompting authorities to shut down the major highway.

The horrific wreck took place along the stretch of the route situated between Ngodwana and Waterval Onder. Footage from the area highlights the severe aftermath, with emergency crews working amidst the scattered wreckage to secure the area.

A spokesperson for the provincial Community, Safety, Security and Liaison Department confirmed that emergency services personnel are currently on the scene managing the crisis. The department noted that the highway remains closed to the public while first responders handle the situation.

Authorities have not yet established the exact factors that led to the deadly impact. The spokesperson indicated that the cause of the crash remains unclear at this stage, pending a full investigation by traffic officials. Motorists are being urged to avoid the area and seek alternative routes until the road is reopened.
