CAPE TOWN — A brazen Nyanga shooting has claimed four lives, triggering an intense law enforcement response tied to a suspected Cape Town taxi attack.
The quadruple homicide unfolded when the victims were in transit along Old Klipfontein Road. Their journey was unexpectedly halted by a mechanical issue, forcing the group to pull over and change a flat tire.
According to police spokesperson Andre Traut, the situation turned deadly while the occupants were outside the vehicle attending to the repair. Unknown gunmen approached the stranded motorists and opened fire in a sudden, targeted ambush.
Emergency medical services were dispatched to the crime scene, but the victims had sustained catastrophic gunshot wounds. Medical personnel were tragically forced to declare all four individuals deceased on arrival.
While the precise trigger for the violence is still being pieced together, authorities are heavily leaning toward local taxi violence as the primary motive. Traut emphasized that confirming the exact motive remains a central pillar of the active, ongoing investigation.
The assailants fled the area immediately following the barrage of gunfire. As of the latest briefings, no arrests have been made in connection with the murders.
