OR Tambo Task Team Arrests Teen Suspect in Lusikisiki Clothing Store Armed Robbery

LUSIKISIKI — Following an armed robbery at a Lusikisiki clothing store, the OR Tambo District Task Team has arrested a 19-year-old suspect and recovered a firearm along with stolen cash. The rapid operation underscores the task team’s ongoing efforts to combat business robberies in the region.

The arrest occurred at approximately 18:30 on Saturday, 20 June 2026, just hours after the initial heist. Acting on quickly gathered intelligence, officers apprehended the teenage male from the Bazana locality. A subsequent search yielded significant evidence: a Flywheel revolver with an obliterated serial number, two live rounds of ammunition, R9,500 in cash, and several garments. Store management later confirmed that the recovered clothing matched the stolen inventory.

The incident began earlier that afternoon when three armed men stormed a retail clothing shop in the Lusikisiki Central Business District (CBD) at around 15:30. The trio forced their way in, making off with an undisclosed sum of money alongside the apparel. While the 19-year-old was taken into custody, his two accomplices managed to flee and remain at large. Investigators are currently tightening their search to bring the remaining suspects to justice.

The arrested teenager is scheduled to make his first court appearance at the Lusikisiki Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 22 June 2026. He faces a serious slate of charges, including armed robbery, unlawful possession of an unlicensed firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, and possession of suspected stolen clothing items.
