NORTHERN CAPE – A significant Philipstown drug bust concluded this past weekend after the South African Police Service (SAPS) intercepted a vehicle transporting illicit narcotics, resulting in dual arrests and asset seizures.
The interception took place on Saturday, 1 August 2026, as part of the broader Operation Shanela 2 crime prevention initiative. Acting on credible intelligence regarding suspected drug trafficking in the area, officers from the Philipstown SAPS pulled over and searched a silver Opel Corsa at approximately 17:25.
During the search, authorities discovered and confiscated more than 7 kilograms of dagga. A Philipstown SAPS spokesperson confirmed that the seized narcotics carry an estimated street value of R72,000.
The discovery led to the immediate apprehension of two male suspects, aged 40 and 41. According to the spokesperson, both individuals have been charged with dealing in drugs and are scheduled to appear in court in due course.
Additionally, law enforcement officials confirmed that the silver Opel Corsa, which was allegedly utilized to facilitate the criminal activity, has been officially impounded as part of the ongoing investigation.
