Police Arrest Man for Illegal Firearm and Ammunition

Steenberg SAPS Crime Prevention Unit members continue to enforce public safety in Lavender Hill.

On Wednesday, 13 May 2026, at approximately 23:25, Steenberg Crime Prevention Unit (CPU) personnel acted on a tip-off about a man allegedly in possession of a firearm at a residence in Roos Court, Lavender Hill.

Officers followed up on the information and searched the identified premises and its occupant. During the search, they found:

  • A Taurus Brasil .38 Special revolver with no serial number

  • Ten .38 rounds of ammunition on a dog kennel

  • A black purse used to conceal the firearm

A 34-year-old male was arrested for possession of a prohibited firearm and illegal possession of ammunition.

He will appear in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court once formally charged.
