Police in Vhembe District Arrest Man, 55, for Alleged Murder of Girlfriend

Police have arrested a 55-year-old man in connection with the fatal stabbing of his girlfriend at Thothololo village on Tuesday, 13 April 2026.

According to police reports, authorities received a complaint of a stabbing incident at a residential premises in Thothololo village on the afternoon of 13 April. Upon arrival at the crime scene, officers found community members already present. Police then proceeded to the bedroom, where they discovered the victim lying with severe injuries to her upper body.

Emergency Medical Services personnel were summoned to the scene, but the victim was declared dead.

A preliminary report indicates that the deceased was sleeping in her house when the suspect entered. The two engaged in a heated argument, after which the victim was fatally stabbed with a sharp object. A murder docket was registered at Tshitale South African Police Service (SAPS).

On Wednesday, 15 April 2026, detective members from Tshitale received information regarding the suspect’s whereabouts. Officers operationalised the information, leading to the arrest of the 55-year-old male suspect.

He is expected to appear before the Tshitale Magistrate’s Court soon on a charge of murder.
