Barberton police have opened an inquiry after ten buses were destroyed by a fire at a local bus depot on Wednesday, 17 December 2025. The incident occurred around 01:00.
Initial reports indicate one bus caught fire. While security personnel investigated and called firefighters, the blaze spread to nine other buses.
The cause of the fire is unknown and under investigation. Police urge anyone with information to contact CrimeStop at 08600 10111 or use the MySAPS app. Information will be confidential and can be given anonymously.
Acting Provincial Commissioner Major General Zeph Mkhwanazi stated police are working to determine the cause and are ruling nothing out.
