Police in Muswodi have arrested a 44-year-old male suspect and confiscated illicit cigarettes with an estimated value of R1,663,045 during a stop-and-search operation conducted within the Muswodi policing area.
On Thursday, 16 April 2026, at approximately 15:00, members stationed at Muswodi were conducting routine stop-and-search operations along the Muswodi public road when they stopped and searched a white Toyota GD6 bakkie.
During the search, police discovered a large consignment of illicit cigarettes concealed inside the vehicle. The driver was immediately arrested for contravention of the Customs and Excise Act.
The illicit cigarettes, valued at approximately R1,663,045, were confiscated.
The suspect is expected to appear before the local Magistrate’s Court soon.
Police investigations are ongoing.
