Law enforcement officials confiscated illicit liquor valued at R9,750,000 and arrested three Chinese nationals following a high-speed pursuit and the raid of a Paarl warehouse on Thursday, June 4, 2026.
The joint operation was carried out by the Provincial Counterfeit and Illicit Goods policing team in collaboration with the Anti-Economic Crimes Task team. Authorities acted on intelligence regarding a suspect who owns a liquor outlet in Stellenbosch and operates a storage warehouse in Paarl.
On Thursday, officers tracked the suspect’s vehicle as it traveled toward Paarl, monitoring it as it entered a secure premises. When the vehicle exited the facility, police attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the driver sped away, sparking a high-speed chase. The pursuit concluded when the vehicle came to a halt. The driver then fled the scene on foot, leaving two occupants inside the car. Police pursued the suspect and successfully apprehended him following a foot chase.
Upon inspecting the vehicle, officers discovered a quantity of illicit alcohol and immediately notified the South African Revenue Service (SARS) Customs Unit. Investigators then proceeded to the suspect’s Paarl warehouse, where additional illicit stock was recovered. The total value of the confiscated goods amounted to R9,750,000.
Three Chinese nationals were arrested in connection with the operation. They are expected to appear in the Paarl Magistrate’s Court once formal charges are filed.
