Potchefstroom Drug Arrest: Nigerian Migrant Detained for Alleged Dealing

Police recover illicit substances and cash following intelligence-led operation in North West

NORTH WEST — A 35-year-old Nigerian migrant is in custody following a Potchefstroom drug arrest executed by members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) on Friday, 3 July 2026.

Acting on a tip-off regarding suspected narcotics concealed in an alleyway behind a local bakery, law enforcement swiftly operationalized the intelligence. Subsequent investigations and follow-ups on additional leads directed officers to a residential flat where the suspect had allegedly been seen.

Upon locating the individual, officers conducted a search that allegedly yielded illicit substances alongside an undisclosed amount of cash. Consequently, the suspect was immediately apprehended on the spot for allegedly dealing in drugs.

The accused is scheduled to make his first appearance at the Potchefstroom Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 6 July 2026, to formally answer to the charge of dealing in drugs.
