GAUTENG — A swift and coordinated police response to a violent Pretoria North petrol station robbery has led to the arrest of four suspects and the recovery of multiple stolen assets, including an ATM and getaway vehicles. The dramatic early-morning heist, which unfolded on Thursday, 13 August 2026, ended in a flurry of gunfire but resulted in no injuries to law enforcement or private security personnel.
Following the initial attack, authorities launched a tactical follow-up operation into Soshanguve Extension 20. The pursuit was triggered by local residents reporting the sound of multiple gunshots echoing through the neighborhood. Working jointly, Soshanguve police and private security operatives intercepted the group and seized a massive haul of evidence. Officers recovered the white Ford Ranger—allegedly the primary getaway vehicle—along with the purloined ATM, the targeted drop safe, an assortment of burglary tools, looted retail merchandise, and an undisclosed sum of cash.
Investigators allege that the heavily armed syndicate stormed the fuel station premises, physically hoisting the heavy cash safes onto the bed of the Ford Ranger before making their escape. Despite the heavy exchange of gunfire during the commission of the crime and the subsequent pursuit, officials confirmed that no security staff or police officers sustained injuries.
In addition to the primary bakkie, authorities impounded a white Suzuki that investigators have directly tied to the incident.
