NORTHERN CAPE — Following a recent Prieska drug arrest, a 25-year-old man is facing charges after local law enforcement confiscated dagga with an estimated street value exceeding R8,000. The seizure occurred during a routine crime prevention operation when officers observed suspicious behavior, leading to the recovery of illicit substances and undisclosed cash.
On Saturday, 11 July 2026, police attached to the Prieska Police Station were conducting patrols along Hector Street. Officers noticed a man acting suspiciously upon spotting a marked police vehicle. The suspect reportedly entered a nearby yard and attempted to conceal an object.
Acting on their observations, the officers immediately approached the individual and searched the area. During the search, they recovered a blue 20-litre bucket filled with dagga. In addition to the drugs, police confiscated cash found in the suspect’s possession, which has been secured as evidence for the ongoing investigation.
The suspect was formally arrested and charged with dealing in drugs. He is expected to make his first appearance before the Prieska Magistrate’s Court soon.
