WESTERN CAPE — A high-value R1.3 million mandrax seizure in George has severely disrupted regional narcotics networks following a precision strike in the Conville area. Law enforcement officials uncovered a massive stash of illicit substances cleverly concealed within everyday household items, leading to the immediate arrest of a suspected dealer.
Acting on targeted intelligence, a joint tactical task force consisting of the Conville Crime Prevention Unit and Outeniqua K9 members descended on a residential property along Potsolo Notyeke Crescent in Lawaaikamp. The coordinated raid took place on Wednesday, 05 August 2026, at approximately 15:00, as officers executed a legally obtained search warrant.
During the systematic sweep of the home, investigators made two critical discoveries that exposed the suspect’s hiding methods. Officers first located a cardboard box displaying a recognizable courier company logo, which was heavily packed with mandrax tablets. Further inspection of the premises revealed a chest freezer that was no longer functioning. Inside the broken, unplugged appliance, authorities found numerous plastic bags densely loaded with the illegal narcotics.
The thorough search resulted in the confiscation of exactly 26,000 mandrax tablets. Police spokesperson Noloyiso Rwexana highlighted the significance of the bust, confirming the estimated street value of the confiscated haul at R1.3 million.
Following the discovery, a 42-year-old male suspect was apprehended at the scene and formally charged with drug dealing offenses. He currently remains detained in police custody and is scheduled to face the justice system during his first appearance at the Thembalethu Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 07 August 2026.
