GAUTENG – Authorities in the West Rand have successfully halted a suspected copper cable theft operation, leading to the arrest of a 42-year-old individual and the recovery of illicit materials valued at approximately R700 000. The breakthrough was achieved on Tuesday, 1 September 2026, through a joint, intelligence-led effort between the West Rand District Crime Intelligence unit and local Krugersdorp Visible Policing teams.
The targeted intervention was triggered by a credible tip-off regarding a white Isuzu truck purportedly ferrying stolen copper wiring from Rustenburg to a recycling facility in Krugersdorp. After validating the intelligence, law enforcement officers tracked the vehicle and executed a strategic interception in the Tarlton vicinity.
A thorough inspection of the commercial vehicle uncovered a massive stash of copper cables believed to be the proceeds of crime. The driver was immediately taken into custody and is now confronting formal charges related to the possession of suspected stolen goods.
Legal proceedings are set to commence shortly, with the 42-year-old accused scheduled to stand before the Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 2 September 2026.
