GAUTENG — A major breakthrough in the Reiger Park police murders investigation has led to the detention of a known gangster who was already out on bail, authorities announced following an intensive weekend manhunt. The suspect is currently being questioned regarding the fatal shootings of two South African Police Service (SAPS) Anti-Gang Unit officers and two local women.
Law enforcement tracked the individual to the KwaDukathole Informal Settlement in Germiston. During the raid, the multi-disciplinary task force successfully recovered two R5 assault rifles that had been stolen from the SAPS.
The victims of the brutal attack include Gauteng Anti-Gang Unit members Constables Tlomatsana and Sibeko, alongside two female community members. Police records indicate the apprehended suspect is a high-profile criminal who was currently released on bail. His extensive rap sheet includes pending court dockets for two prior murders, two attempted murders, and illegal firearm possession.
The Sunday, 09 August 2026, arrest was the culmination of tireless tracing operations by a specialized coalition. This joint team included the DPCI’s Serious Organised Crime Investigation, PRASA, Gauteng Crime Intelligence Tactical and Special Operations, the Provincial Tracking Team, the Tactical Response Team, and the Anti-Gang Unit.
Addressing the developments, DPCI Acting National Head Lieutenant General Sphesihle Nkosi extended his deepest sympathies to the grieving families, friends, and colleagues of Constables Tlomatsana and Sibeko. Lieutenant General Nkosi emphasized that the successful apprehension and the retrieval of the state-issued R5 rifles send a clear message: the SAPS will relentlessly pursue anyone who targets law enforcement and innocent communities.
Both the SAPS and the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI) reiterated their dedication to eradicating illegal weapons and dismantling entrenched criminal syndicates. Officials confirmed the probe into the Reiger Park killings remains highly active, noting that further arrests have not been ruled out as the hunt for remaining accomplices continues.
