Reiger Park SAPS Murders: Hawks Arrest Second Suspect Following Community Tip-Offs

Acting National Commissioner Puleng Dimpane praises civilian bravery as a 24-year-old is taken into custody for the killings of two Anti-Gang Unit officers and two women.

GAUTENG — Law enforcement officials have secured a major breakthrough in the Reiger Park SAPS murders, apprehending a second suspect connected to the fatal ambush that claimed the lives of two Anti-Gang Unit officers and two female civilians. The Monday afternoon arrest marks a significant escalation in the probe into the deadly gang-related violence that shook the local community last week.

The 24-year-old male was taken into custody following a rigorous tracing campaign driven by a multidisciplinary task force. The joint operation integrated the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks), the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD), the Flying Squad, and the SAPS Anti-Gang Unit.

Acting National Commissioner Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane highlighted that the success of the manhunt relied heavily on local residents. She expressed deep gratitude to the Reiger Park community for their bravery in sharing crucial intelligence with investigators, noting that civilian partnerships are indispensable in regions plagued by gang activity.

“This arrest is not only a victory for SAPS; it is also a demonstration of the power of a community that refuses to be silenced by criminals. We commend the people of Reiger Park who stood up, spoke up and shared information with the police. Your courage and willingness to work with law enforcement has made a difference,” Lieutenant General Dimpane stated.

She stressed that local intelligence is the primary catalyst for solving complex violent crimes. “When communities speak up, they give police the information we need to move investigations forward. We therefore urge the people of Reiger Park to continue standing with the police and to continue providing information that can help us identify and arrest those who commit violent crimes,” she added.

The tactical success coincides with a somber period for the police service, which is actively mourning its fallen heroes killed in the line of duty. Constable Thapelo Tlomatsane was laid to rest on Monday in Limpopo, following the Saturday, 15 August 2026, funeral of his colleague, Constable Sphiwe Sibeko.

The weekend’s developments bring the total number of individuals in police custody to two. Earlier in the week, 23-year-old Reagan Collis faced the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court, where he was charged with four counts of murder. Collis remains behind bars, with his formal bail application officially scheduled for 25 August 2026. The newly detained 24-year-old is slated to make his first appearance before the same Boksburg court later this week.

Reaffirming the state’s commitment to eradicating gang syndicates, Dimpane offered a message of solidarity to the affected neighborhoods, promising that the multidisciplinary teams will work tirelessly to bring all perpetrators to justice.

“We want the people of Reiger Park to know that we hear you. We appreciate those who have chosen to stand up and speak up. Your information matters, and your courage strengthens our investigations. We will continue working with you to reclaim our communities from criminals,” concluded Lieutenant General Dimpane.
